What is Medical Massage?
Medical massage specializes in treating medical conditions and symptoms that
can typically include whiplash, nerve pain, injuries, neck and back pain,
tension headaches, limited joint range of motion, muscular tension, spasms, and
cramps. Each massage is tailored to your needs. Different techniques are
utilized including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, and Stretching. I work with everything from chronic cases like Fibromyalgia to athletes like marathon runners.
should I expect with my first massage?
Come a few minutes early to fill
out a health intake form. This is confidential and ensures we are aware of your
medical conditions. The form gives permission to work areas, and sets your
goals so we can work together, whether that be for short or long term.
What should I expect after the massage?
Depending on your goals, you could
experience relaxation or, with deep tissue, you could have some soreness for a
day or so. The expectation is that you will have improvement once the soreness
wears off. Please drink plenty of water after a massage and make note of any
improvements, changes, or results that you had.
What should I look for if
I have long term goals?
Massage therapy is wonderful for
- Balances body posture, increases flexibility, range of motion
- Reduces pain
- Improves energy
muscles for more pliability
and de-stresses the body
If you are working on increasing
range of motion, reducing long term pain and tension, or coming in for regular
tune-ups, take note on what happened after your massage:
- Did you
have any soreness? If so, how long did it last?
- Did you
notice a reduction in pain or tension? How much improvement was there and how
long did it last? Was the pain/tension still there, but less often?
- Did you
have an increase in motion or energy?
Often, long-term tension/pain is in
the deeper muscle layers. Repeat sessions are needed to get at the deeper
layers – often the root of long term problems. Because of this, appointments
are often scheduled regularly over a span of several years to help with overall health
